How Often Should You Post on YouTube? 1,664 Channels and 42,629 Uploads

3.4×

more views per week for channels posting 4–7 times a week than less than once a week

The short answer

Channels that post more get fewer views per video but more views per week. Picture a channel with 10,000 subscribers. Posting less than once a week, a typical video got about 3,700 views, but the whole week only added up to about 1,300. Posting 4 to 7 times a week, each video got about 1,100 views, and the week added up to about 4,400. Waiting longer between uploads didn’t make a video do better.

Views per week, for every 100 subscribers
Less than once a weekn=64313
About once a weekn=42323
2–3 times a weekn=43137
4–7 times a weekn=15444

Example: 44 means a 10,000-subscriber channel got about 4,400 views that week · n = channels

01

More videos, thinner views, bigger total

Each extra upload splits your audience’s attention, so the average video gets less. But every week adds up to more total views, and every video is another chance at a breakout.

What to do

Post as often as you can without the quality dropping. A slower schedule doesn’t make each video strong enough to make up the difference.

02

Waiting between uploads doesn’t help

Inside each channel, a video posted 2 days after the last one did exactly as well as one posted 2+ weeks later. No matter the gap, videos got the channel’s normal number of views.

What to do

Don’t hold a finished video back to space things out. The gap itself does nothing.

About once a weekn=42324
2–3 times a weekn=43116

How we did it

1,664 active channels with 1,000+ subscribers and 42,629 uploads from their public feeds. We compared posting pace across channels, then compared videos inside each channel by the gap since the previous upload.

The limits

The cross-channel part is a comparison, not an experiment. Channels that post more may differ in other ways, so this shows a pattern, not proof that posting more causes more views.

Questions

How many videos should I post per week on YouTube?

Channels posting 4 to 7 a week got the most views per week but the fewest per video. For a 10,000-subscriber channel, that was about 4,400 views a week versus 1,300 for channels posting less than once a week. Post as often as your quality allows.

Does posting more often hurt your channel?

Not in this data. Views per video went down, but views per week went up, and the time since the last upload made no difference to how a video did.

Is it bad to post two videos close together?

No. Videos posted under 3.5 days apart did the same as videos posted weeks apart (no difference at all).
